George Gordon Byron

Life of Byron is divided into three phases. First – before the advent of the poem “Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage” (1788 – 1812) – characterized by a succession of disappointments: the main one was an awareness of congenital lameness, while others have brought the school, first love, entry into the literary field, difficulty in relationships with others … The second phase marked by a dizzying brilliance of glory, which came after the publication of “Pilgrimage Childe – Harold and the subsequent persecution soon after the break with his wife and society (1812 – 1816). After leaving England, and recovering from the hardships endured, Byron participates first in the Italian revolution, and then in the uprising in Greece – it is there, in the midst of events overtook him and death. This period of greatness of Byron – the poet and man (1816 – 1824).

George Gordon Byron was born in London on 22 January 1788 in the most favourable circumstances: her mother, soon after the birth of her son abandoned dissolute husband, she felt “bitter shame of poverty” – because it came from an ancient family of Scottish kings and inherited a rich state, which was started to wind my father boy.
For health mother brought a decade of Byron in Scotland, where was her patrimony, and where the sea roared. From the sea, he made friends, “leading a child’s hand on the mane of the ocean”, as he wrote later. Desperate for funds, the mother surrendered the castle for rent and settled with her son in a small town, content with a modest, the semi-existence.
Years of teaching in a school for aristocratic young Lord Byron have been overshadowed by the consciousness of his poverty, loneliness, and claudication, exacerbated by quack “treatment.” Subsequently, this shortcoming did not prevent him from becoming a good fighter, an excellent horseman and an excellent swimmer.
Suffering from hardship and injustice, the boy could develop into a heightened sense of responsibility and truth. He sought to patronize and protect the poor downtrodden. Personality is highly active, Byron became acutely aware of himself as a man turning point era, and regretted that he was born too late and did not participate in the revolutionary battles HCH111 end of the century. However, he was very proud obtained by inheritance the title of Lord, which is sometimes more expensive than it was for literary fame.
“Lord Byron – a young man with a furious passion, he needs silk reins”, – said the school director. And true, school attachment had acquired the character of a passionate love. Thirteen years he wrote his first poem – “On the grave of Margaret Parker, in memory of the girl he loved. At the time of stay in school, Harrow, and is the strongest passion of Byron – to Mary Chavort. Beautiful girl rejected him. And this heartfelt wound will not heal any progress on the love arena. His feelings for Mary Byron carried through his life:
I love the name Mary. Many dreams
And a number of unfulfilled dreams
In my mind, the name of the merged …
It is nice to me …
According to the poet, the happy outcome of his love for Mary could give a completely different direction in his life. However, in this situation was a positive thing – the birth of the first collection of poems “leisure” (1807). While that society was not appreciated, and even criticized – for the full title of the author on the cover, with the mention of many women’s names, for imposing on the public image of Don Juan and the lady, – a conclusion that did sarcasm inundated Byron, was directly opposite impression. If the collection was a success, Byron, in his words, perhaps forever left to poetry. But now he decided to show everyone that he is – a poet.
By tradition, the peers of England, noisily celebrating his coming of age, Byron decided to take a seat in the House of Lords.
Following the same tradition, the summer of 1809 he went on a long journey across the continent. For two years he visited Spain and Portugal, the islands of the Mediterranean Sea, Albania, Greece and Turkey, in Asia Minor. Was forced to return – ran out of money – and sad: he buried his mother, two friends and the woman he loves. Loneliness, sadness, pointlessness of existence of consciousness – this is the result of his two-year journey. But – not the chief! He had no idea what a treasure brought with him – it was his travel sketches.
On the advice of a friend he handled these sketches and published. Thus appeared the first two songs of the poem “Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage.” But even before their publication Byron was famous as an orator: he defended in the House of Lords workers Luddites, broke the machine, and his speech was a success, though, had failed. These two beams lit his star – and one morning woke up famous Byron.
The success of the poet in society to promote not only the halo of glory, but the charm and personality: a mysterious stranger, who spent two years in exotic countries, brilliant Lord, handsome, he attracts the attention of both men and women. Byron is a literary circle, where he was cordially accepted
Walter Scott, Moore, Sheridan (it should be noted that many of them it unfairly hurt his satire).
Still preserving the independence of the views of society, always frankly speaking, Byron with his critical, prone to satire minded and insolent demeanor, has managed to amass a lot of enemies in the world. They waited only a moment – and the case will soon be.
Marriage it was unsuccessful. Wife – Anabella Milbank – do not share the interests of the poet. Being educated and even writing poetry, she was completely alien to the freedom-loving poetry of Byron, it irritated him proud, impatient and fiery temper. A month after the birth of daughter
Ada it, taking the child returned to her parents’ house. Entering into relations with psychiatrists, Anabella tried to use them to announce Byron insane. When that failed, filed for divorce.
The act of separation, issued after the Lady Byron has rejected all requests and protests of her husband seemed to be putting an end to the scandalous situation. But only with Byron could happen that family problems had grown into a public drama. Those who could not forgive the poet’s independence of spirit, freethinking, satirical epigrams and rebellious spirit of his poems, did their utmost to bring with them scores. Together creditors property Byron described. Newspapers were full of mocking notes and cartoons. His appearance in the society has become impossible – after it rained insults, ridicule, and sometimes rocks.
In April 1816, saying goodbye to his sister Augusta – the only remaining faithful to him until the end, – Lord Byron left England. As it turned out, forever.
In Italy, the poet found what he lacked in their homeland – the possibility of active participation in the liberation struggle of the people. And this, in turn, served as a powerful source of inspiration for his creativity. Byron resumes work on the poem ‘ “Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage.” Here, in Italy, finishing the dramatic poem “Manfred”. Writes “Don Juan” … Exotic singer East Byron is a poet-thinker, a philosopher. He knows from experience how fragile all the things to aspire to a person, – happiness, fame, power …
Humbled pride to great sorrow in the ruins of Rome, he no longer wants to avenge the insult – this is the case “; Time. His cosmic sadness clear of personal, private, and adopted a lofty tone. Meeting with another British exile – the poet Shelley and his sister Jenny was Clermont beneficial. New love for Jen – and her response give us a new sense of strength and hope …
Love to Jen Clermont (she bore him a daughter, Allegra) was new, but not the last … His passion Italy intensified passion for the beautiful Countess Therese Gvichchioli. Being married to a 60-year-old man, a young countess, see Byron, realized that he – her fate. The poet gave her my life, soul, love. Teresa’s brother, Pietro Gamba, Carbonaro, was an ardent admirer of the poet. Byron joined the liberation movement, fascinated by the ideas of the Carbonari. But it was not satisfied with lethargy and incoherence of the Revolution. Erupted at this time of the uprising in Greece predetermined his future path – he hastens to the rescue.
Being the head of the rebels, he showed remarkable military talents – coordinated action, led the negotiations for the plan. Its headquarters are located in the town Missolungi, located in a swampy area. Proceedings and hardships of camp life have undermined the health of Byron. He fell ill with fever and died April 19, 1824. His dying words were about Greece: “I gave her my time, money, health. Could I do more? Now give it life. ”

Demonic laughter “Don Juan”, to laugh, not to cry, broke off suddenly … The poem remained unfinished. Yes, it is unlikely to Byron, it could put a full stop. In spirit it is infinite. And eternal, as all a poet – that has proven time.
