The structure of the current research on National High School Dropout Rates will include the following eight chapters:
Chapter 1: Introduction
In the introductory chapter, the researcher aims to cover the context of the problem, i.e. generally observe its internal and external factors, environment and social conditions it develops in. Introduction also includes the statement of problem, as well as introduces the research question and subquestions. In this chapter, the researcher also plans to present the aim and significance of the study, i.e. its practical application and the necessity for this study, caused by social situation.
Chapter 2: Literature Review
This chapter aims at providing a comprehensive debate and critique based upon the observation of exiting literature on the research topic, which is mostly found within such areas as juvenile psychology, educational approaches to adolescence, special education, optimization of learning processes, etc. The literature presented in the research includes scholarly published and peer-reviewed articles from academic journals and books, as well as contemporary case studies.
Chapter 3: Research Design and Methodology
Research Design and Methodology chapter aims at presenting the logic of analysis and methods applied for the study of dropout rates. The researcher supposes that the current research mostly needs to be conducted in frames of qualitative paradigm, and then describes the major methods that could be included in the research program for drawing the most vivid picture of the problem. According to the researcher, they involve cross-cultural methods of data interpretation, statistical analysis, observation, semi-structured interview, analysis of creative activity products, content-analysis of school documents, expert evaluation method, and formative pedagogical experiment.
Chapter 4: Personal traits of the students, dropping out of high school
Using the methods described in the previous chapter, this chapter will address the findings related to the personality traits of the specific group studied, i.e. student who are intended to dropping out of high school. Drawing the psychological portrait of this group could be helpful for understanding the structure of these students’ motivations, social situation, external influence, logic of their behavior, and, thus, for understanding the methods which could be applied to manage their role model and destructing behavior.
Chapter 5: Major reasons for the increase of school dropout rates
Following the previous chapter, this chapter will extend from studying personal context to studying social perspectives and will address the findings related to family institution, socio-economic wellbeing, educational system, models of communication inside adolescent communities, etc. The chapter will address the interaction between personality trait of the studied group of student and their social surrounding. As a result, the researcher will present the range of interdependent reasons, causing the increase of dropout rates in the contemporary society.
Chapter 6: The consequences of high dropout rates of the national economy
In this chapter, the researcher will claim that the increase of dropout rate has negatively affected national economy, and this tendency will continue growing. The researcher will show the way this influence occurs, cause-effect lines and finally, demonstrate the reverse chain, taking place in the conditions, when high school dropout rates will start declining. This research aspect is important for addressing the importance of problem in the national scale and showing the significance of combating it in the frameworks of national programs.
Chapter 7: Methods of managing the problem of high dropout rates
This chapter will discuss the measures that could be taken in order to prevent the problem, and fight its consequences and negative impacts. The researcher suggests that they could include support programs, psychological support systems, educational reforms, specialized programs for parent of studied students, motivational seminars, etc. These measures can be taken not only to prevent minors from dropping out of high school, but also strongly motivate them for obtaining further education and making more effective life choices in future.
Chapter 8: Summary, Conclusion, and Recommendations
This chapter will include the generalized summary of the findings and discussions of the study on dropout rates. This chapter will also provide a clear and concise statement of the purpose of the study and research subquestions. The conclusion will integrate the most significant findings of the current research and will involve recommendations for further research in this area.
In general, the purpose of this study is to assess the difficulties students face in high school and make a research on reasons, influencing their dropout decisions, through examining students’ personality traits and social environment, as well as to identify some methods being used to combat the issue. The background and motivation providing the foundation for this study echoed previous research recommendations for the need to further explore the increasing high school dropout rates, which has already become a stable tendency and the kind of mark for the whole century. The findings of this study will also draw the relationship between the increase of dropout rates and their negative effects on national economy and perspectives of its development in particular.
